Collectively, our team has experienced many residency programs through our own practices. We did not want The Aunte to perpetuate the narrative of ‘starving artists’ - providing little in comfort and always being the bare minimum - like the majority of artist residency programs. Instead, The Aunte has focused on designing an inspiring, comfortable and functional space where artists' basic needs are met so they can create from a space of abundance. Hence our namesake ‘The Aunte - the aunties upping the ante’. 

The Aunte does not have an expectation of creation or outcomes as part of the residency program. Though we do encourage and support artist talks and/or open houses, they are not required and are driven by the artist themselves.
